I attended my first yoga class at a YMCA in 1998. I had back pain and was going through a divorce at the time. A girlfriend suggested yoga, so we took a class together. It was there, I learned the physical benefits and the peace which followed the practice. However, it was clear my spirit felt “uneasy”. The Eastern religious ties were just too much, it made me uncomfortable. After that course, I studied and practiced at home for years, doing simple asanas, breathing techniques and began creating my own practice.
In
2002 I was injured at work where I tore a muscle away from a rib.
I was also diagnosed with “thoracic facet syndrome” from repetitive motion injuries. These injuries, lead me on a journey through Workman’s Comp which left me 6% permanently, partially disabled. I had seen numerous doctor’s, chiropractors, massage therapists, and physical therapists who were unable to manage my pain. I was told my injury was “as good as it was going to get.” It was at this point doctors prescribed yoga for pain management. It was there that I started a regular Yoga practice.
I
was certified through N.E.S.T.A. the National Endurance & Sports Trainers Association in Sport Yoga and created Yoga Alternatives in 2005. I chose this program for the fundamental basics of poses without religious ties.
My
goal with Yoga Alternatives is to reach out, offering a tool for
healing through God’s love! It has truly been a blessing and continues to allow me to live a more comfortable life!
God
has blessed me with this gift of yoga. By sharing my practice with
you, that is my way of giving back to God. May it please Him and
bless you!
Namaste.
